چکیده

Oligomer Coupling Agents in Phosphate Based Glass Fibre/PLA Composites P Haque, AJ Parsons, I Ahmed, DJ Irvine, GS Walker, CD Rudd (Univ of Nottingham) Polylactic acid oligomers as coupling agents have showed potentially higher interfacial shear strength in phosphate based glass fibre/ PLA composites. To influence bonding on the glass fibre surface, the short chain PLA with different end groups were used as coupling agents. Mechanical properties of the sized fibres/PLA composites were determined. Cytocompatibility and Mechanical Properties of Short Phosphate Glass Fibre Reinforced Polylactic Acid (PLA) Composites: Effect of Coupling Agent Mediated Interface

In this study three chemical agents Amino-propyl-triethoxy-silane (APS), sorbitol ended PLA oligomer (SPLA) and Hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) were identified to be used as coupling agents to react with the phosphate glass fibre (PGF) reinforcement and the polylactic acid (PLA) polymer matrix of the composite. Composites were prepared with short chopped strand fibres (l = 20 mm, ϕ = 20 µm) in...

Oligomer Coupling Agents for Phosphate Based Glass Fibre/pla Composites

Bioabsorbable phosphate glass fibre/polymer composites are being investigated as alternatives to commonly used metal alloy-based bone fracture fixation devices. According to Knowles [1], these ‘Third Generation’ implants remain in the body for the short term necessary for mechanical stabilisation of tissue. In addition the degradation products of the bioabsorbable implants perform an active fun...

Interface Bond Improvement of Sisal Fibre Reinforced Polylactide Composites with Added Epoxy Oligomer

To improve the interfacial bonding of sisal fiber-reinforced polylactide biocomposites, polylactide (PLA) and sisal fibers (SF) were melt-blended to fabricate bio-based composites via in situ reactive interfacial compatibilization with addition of a commercial grade epoxy-functionalized oligomer Joncryl ADR@-4368 (ADR). The FTIR (Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy) analysis and SEM (scanni...

In-situ Reactive Interfacial Compatibilization and Properties of Polylactide/Sisal Fiber Biocomposites via Melt-blending with Epoxy-functionalized Oligomer

To improve the interfacial bonding of sisal fiber reinforced polylactide biocomposites, polylactide (PLA) and sisal fibers (SF) were melt-blended to fabricate bio-based composites via in situ reactive interfacial compatibilization with the addition of an epoxy-functionalized oligomer (ADR). The FTIR analysis and SEM characterization demonstrated that PLA molecular chain was bonded to the fiber ...

Mechanical behaviour of degradable phosphate glass fibres and composites-a review.

Biodegradable materials are potentially an advantageous alternative to the traditional metallic fracture fixation devices used in the reconstruction of bone tissue defects. This is due to the occurrence of stress shielding in the surrounding bone tissue that arises from the absence of mechanical stimulus to the regenerating bone due to the mismatch between the elastic modulus of bone and the me...
